I Ran

Yes... I did.

The last time I ran was about 12 years ago. I was on the CCNY volleyball team. I'll never forget running laps around the volleyball court dying to stop. I was never very good at the runner part of our training. I was a center block, I heart jumping NOT running.

So why the heck do I want to start running?

Well, after the Tour de Bronx I noticed that my normal stationary bike workout had become easier to do. My body felt like it wasn't doing anything. Knowing a lot more about my body now, I know that my body leveled off. I needed a new challenge. Since I do not have the time to hit the gym five days a week like in the summer I have to do something that is effective and well not require more then 45 minutes to complete. Running was the answer.

Blurry Start

You don't have time for the gym, when the heck are you going to run?

I figure that I will run on my husband's days off. While he and the kids are snoring away in the morning I can take a run around our neighborhood.

How early is that?

I would have to awake up and stay up at 5am to leave my home no later than 5:30am to be back but 6am. Shut the front door!

A few days ago I decided that I was going to attempt it. The first attempt failed! I turned off the alarm and round right back into the sheets. This morning I almost did the same thing. My running clothes were sitting at the end of the bed. I forced myself to grab them and go to the bathroom to get ready. I tried to talk myself out of it.

"It's chilly outside and my bed is so warm."

"Just a few more minutes."

Checking Laces
I put my clothes on grabbed my phone, my keys and I was out the door. (I couldn't find my camera in the dark, hence the blurry iPhone pictures on this post) I looked up and the sky was still dark. I turned on my 5K Runner App and began walking. I did my warm up and the app told me to start running. I ran for one minute. My heart was racing. My lungs were open with the cold air. I thought to myself why did I start this on a cold morning. I ran and walked 0.6 miles and turned back. I made it back home by 6am. I was so chilled that I did not sweat. I took ALL my clothes off and jumped back into bed to warm up. As soon as I warmed up a little I started sweating. My body made up for the lack of sweat outside.

First run/walk:
Start time: 5:35am
Outdoor Temperature: 46 degrees
Duration: 25 minutes
Distance: 1.2 miles
Almost Home!
I hope to have better pictures tomorrow.
