Camp fire. My love. I never camped as a child. The first time I want camping I was 23. I enjoyed every second if it. I was so into it, I trained to become a Girl Scout troop leader.
This is picture is of my troop's first trip to camp. It was a great trip. I took 15 city girls to Camp Kaufmann in Holmes, New York. About 2.5 hours away from the Bronx. For 12 of my girls this was their first camp fire.
This picture below is of Crotona Park's Natural spring. In 2005, the parks department decided to rebuilt the made -man mini lake which sits in the middle of Crotona Park, back to the natural spring. A mountain of dirt was removed to reveal this. So far, the spring seems to be a bit dry and rusty.
This pictures is of my kitchen window. Today was a beautiful day. Today is also the last day of my vacation. Good-bye Summer Vacation. Below is my son's inhaler. Whenever some says anything about air, I think of Big Al's Lungs. December 2006 he was diagnosed with Asthma. This medication helps my Big Al to breath in the air all around. We live in the Bronx. The Bronx is the Nationals leading community of asthma cases. This is due it's location in New York State. The Bronx is the link for the rest of NYC and Long Island to Upper New York State. Heavy truck traffic pollutes the air...
This is week is natural elements photo week thanks to Shari. This is going to be fun. This morning, I was keeping true my list, 40 things before I am 30, by keeping up with #9. I have been successful in doing #9, but I don't know If I will once I am no longer on vacation.
My Masterpiece! Today was the first time, in a long time, where I painted something coo-key. I impressed myself. I messed up on the top two, but you can see the mess the most on the top right one. I am sure after a few days of staring at it I while change that one. I found these 8 inch square at the Family Dollar for a buck. I covered the picture that was glued on it the canvas. I taped off stripes. I used navy, pearl blue, gold and white paint.
Roxanne, a good friend of mine, has a set she made as a headboard in her bedroom. They are pink and green. She also made a brown set for her living room. She was my inspiration.
I love my work. I placed these squares in bedroom across from my bed. That empty wall was staring at me for months.
I live in the Belmont section of Fordham in the Bronx. This area is better known to bronxites as Little Italy. You can find anything Italian related in my neighborhood. The picture below is of the local import store. You are looking at the different sauces and in the white bucket are all sorts of beans. You can also see packaged paste at the bottom of the picture. This next picture is looking thru my peep hole. I live on the first floor. So I get to hear every one's business. A nosey person's dream. My neighbor in the apartment across from me, has been living in her apartment for about 40 years. She is an awesome Italian women, who is totally independent. I want to be like her when I grown up. That's my building. It's the only apartment building on the block. My building's name is Florence. Perfect name for this neighborhood. When you walk in to my lobby, just right out side of my door, you see all of this beautiful molding. Sometimes I wish I could get tons of paint remover and go to town on it. My door frame has a trace of the old days. The name tag of the person that use to live here and the old door bell. I love the original tiles on each floor of the building. They try to copy it in the bathrooms. They are really really close. Yes I live in an old building, but there is nothing old about my cabinets and appliances. My building was partially renovated about three years ago. Here is my small kitchen and the entrance to my kid's room. This is my hand made clay wind chime. My daughter's grandma got it for me from El Salvador. This is the front windows to my apartment. This double windows lets the sun flood my apartment. This is a shot from out the window. One of the things I love the most are the radiators. Great designs on them. Right above the radiator in my living room are my frames. The top frame is of me and my sister when we were kids. The following two are of my kids first pictures and the tags from the hospital. Just below that is Big Bea's Kindergarten graduation picture and Big Bea and Big Al together. The last one, that I can never get straight is of Big Bea when she was two. I really don't have a style to my home. It's my style. The color is mostly blue. White and beige are all about. There is a peek at the most interesting parts of my home. I hope you enjoyed it .
Stitch by stitch my cozy blanket is half way done. I am on row 56. RIGHT ON! It's been an unusually cool summer so I have been sitting under the blanket happy that I decided to make this now. I am sure that I wouldn't have got this far if it was hot.
Success! Early this morning, I finally learn how to knit. I am terrible at it but I did it. I can cross off half of #6 on my list, 40 things Before I am 30. Here is my work. Awful isn't it. I love it.
Today, I learn a new stitch with my sister. We learn how to ripple.
This picture is if my sister's practice piece. I discovered this was the first time my sister crocheted in THREE years. I think that's a crime. This is my piece. I caught on very quickly. My sister, on the hand, frogged a few times.
This is my finished product. I enjoyed learning this with my sister on a slow, rainy day.
